Ballandra Bay

~ 14 July - 20 July 2019 ~

We went for 1 more snorkel in Divorce Cove on Sunday morning before heading off to our next stop. We headed north towards Loreto, hoping to find a nice bay with internet to base ourselves out of for a bit.

We decided on Ballandra because it was directly across from Loreto and had the coverage was okay if we anchored close to the entrance. After getting anchored for the night, we settled down and relaxed, enjoying the beautiful bay and the surrounding hills. There are meant to be big horned sheep on the island but we didn't see any that night. We had a great view of the sunset from our anchorage though. The coverage was good enough for Ashley to connect to the internet and worked so we got setup for the next few days. Working during the day we had plenty of time to explore the bay, we snorkelled every evening but surprisingly the visibility wasn't as good as a few miles south. We did see a couple of large Cabrilla in the deeper areas outside the bay. The sunsets were amazing as the bay was totally open to the west

The marine life was awesome, outside the bay there were a lot of huge boulders, we couldn't free dive down deep enough to get to the sand around them. One dive went at the south side entrance to the channel we saw 2 turtles! Inside the bay day we found another octopus! That made 4 that Ashley had found since we left La Paz. 1 at Divorce Cove and the other 2 at Candeleros.

Also inside the Bay, there was an underground cliff with ridges and side cracks. Here we found lobsters! There were some great big ones and some were small. But they were super cool to see, most were in the crevices but some were just sitting on rocks. I’m surprised how fast they can move when they notice you! With a flip of their tail they shoot through the water.
